Why this publication exists
Kaydar is an independent English-language guide to LGBTQ+ travel and culture in South Korea, published by Michael Bahk. It was created to protect and advance the interests of LGBTQ+ visitors to Korea and to make their journeys easier, better informed and more comfortable. Gay men are particularly welcome, while our practical and cultural resources are open to all readers.
We aim to help visitors understand Korea beyond the usual tourist highlights, including community history, public culture, neighborhoods and everyday travel decisions. Reliable information, respectful guidance and the freedom to make informed choices can make a meaningful difference to a journey.
Publisher and editorial responsibility
Publisher: Michael Bahk. Michael is responsible for Kaydar’s editorial direction and publication decisions. The byline “Kaydar Editorial” identifies the publication and does not imply a large newsroom, a professional qualification or a team of on-site correspondents. We identify individual contributors or specialist reviewers only when their work and permission are established.

What makes our guides different
Our guides compare real choices: where a hotel base makes sense, which destinations fit into one geographic cluster, how to plan a return after dark and where a changing fact can be checked. We combine researched information, official sources and original editorial analysis. An illustrative route is not a claim that a writer has personally walked it. We do not use historical business lists to imply current verification or sell favorable editorial conclusions.
How our research is produced
AI tools may assist with research organization, drafting, translation, editing, code and conceptual imagery. They are not independent evidence and do not replace the publisher’s responsibility for the published edition. We distinguish directly reviewed primary documents, older background references, changing third-party services and our own route comparisons. We do not claim a visit, interview, hotel test or business inspection unless that activity is documented.
The September 2026 editorial revision includes direct review of selected official entry, festival, archive, court and data-provider documents. It does not certify every linked service or every inherited claim. Our Editorial Standards explain the method, and the public source register records the scope and limitations of the research. Changing information should be checked with the responsible operator before travel.
Our relationship with readers and communities
LGBTQ+ identity is not treated as sexual content, and an individual’s privacy is not a commodity. We do not publish unverified private-venue claims, unnecessary sensitive personal information or identifying details about people who have not chosen to be public. Advertising, if introduced, will be separate from editorial judgments. We welcome documented corrections, accessibility feedback and relevant community perspectives.
